Social Media, the buzz word in marketing these days is an often misunderstood element of the marketing mix and can be baffling to some businesses.   Social media is a powerful business tool, but it right for your business?  Social Media Marketing may seem counter-intuitive to some and vastly important to others.  But the fact of the matter is, if your customers are a part of these communities, then you need to have a presence there so you can talk to them.

Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn and more are NOT a sales Channel. It is about building a following and creating conversations with your followers.  It is about creating content that is relevant to THEM and hoping they will find it interesting enough to share with others.  It creates raving fans, builds your fan base, starts word-of-mouth advertising.  It allows for Branding, Awareness and many times helps convert sales.  The aim with Social Media is people. Period. What do the people want?  The other aim is to drive them somewhere, I.e. your website. Once you get them to the website – then it is the website’s job to close the sale. And provide them with information, or something that they are interested in.

The success of social media is when the company engages the customers.  Through this media channel, you can determine a wide array of things from your customer base and meet them where they are.  Constant, relevant, engaging content are what people are looking for from businesses who have profiles on these sites.  Content is king and engaging the customers is vital and it ALL depends on your customers.  Social Media allows you to learn about them, talk to them and engage them in a way that has never been available before.  We used to have to go out to places and survey people. Now you can ask them directly and get answers. It is amazing.
